What happens when we die? This and other important questions are explored in Afterlifea revealing documentary that stars noted researchers Raymond Moody, MD, PhD, and Jeffrey Long, MD, and features emotionally-charged interviews with people who have crossed the threshold of death and returned to tell their stories.

“Near-death experiences (NDEs) are spiritual events of staggering magnitude that have the power to change our attitudes toward death and life” says director Paul Perry. “Their power to change lives lies in the discovery that a fresh new world awaits our last heartbeat. For the physically ill, it is the discovery that we leave our body behind and continue as spirits, free of earthy pain.”

This film confirms what scientists have discovered since the 1970s, when this field of near-death studies began: that NDEs prove a life after life.

Reports of psychic abilities, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, and psychokinesis, date back to the beginning of recorded human history in all cultures. Documented, reproducible evidence exists that these abilities are real, yet the mainstream scientific community has vehemently denied the existence of psi phenomena for centuries. The battle over the reality of psi has carried on in scientific academies, courtrooms, scholarly journals, newspapers, and radio stations and has included scandals, wild accusations, ruined reputations, as well as bizarre characters on both sides of the debate. If true evidence exists, why then is the study of psi phenomena–parapsychology–so controversial? And why has the controversy lasted for centuries?

Exploring the scandalous history of parapsychology and citing decades of research, Chris Carter shows that, contrary to mainstream belief, replicable evidence of psi phenomena exists. The controversy over parapsychology continues not because ESP and other abilities cannot be verified but because their existence challenges deeply held worldviews more strongly rooted in religious and philosophical beliefs than in hard science. Carter reveals how the doctrine of materialism–in which nothing matters but matter–has become an infallible article of faith for many scientists and philosophers, much like the convictions of religious fundamentalists. Consequently, the possibility of psychic abilities cannot be tolerated because their existence would refute materialism and contradict a deeply ingrained ideology. By outlining the origin of this passionate debate, Carter calls on all open-minded individuals to disregard the church of skepticism and reach their own conclusions by looking at the vast body of evidence.

This is an accessible guide to the theory and evidence underlying the phenomenon of NDEs. With contributions from leading international experts in the field, it provides an overview of the research into NDEs, the nature of NDEs and how they have been experienced around the world, and the physiological, psychological and medical bases of the phenomenon. This book also discusses children’s NDEs, NDEs from a religious perspective, the role of light in NDEs, the assessment and management of NDEs, and the future of research into the phenomenon. This essential handbook will provide all those who may encounter someone who has had an NDE with the knowledge and understanding they need, including nurses, doctors, palliative care workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and pastoral workers.

This case concerns a young boy in Baalchmay, Lebanon, who made specific statements before several family members asserting memories of a previous life, such as being a man who carried pistols and hand-grenades, having a mute friend, describing a house, having children, living in the village of Quaberchamoun, and being shot by armed people. The case is unusual because when the child was taken at age 7 to the village, a corresponding deceased person was identified by means of his claimed memories, and the widow and the man’s brother became certain of the authenticity of the child’s reincarnation through his correct answers to their questions, recognition of people and possessions, and his own knowledgeable questions to them.

I found this article which compares the ‘near death experience’ testimony to the testimony of past life memories.

Close analysis of 35 such cases in Burma indicated that the interval memories could be broken down into three parts: a transitional stage, a stable stage in a particular location, and a return stage involving a choice of parents or conception. The reports of interval memories by the Burmese children were compared to reports of near-death experiences (NDEs). They showed features similar to the transcendental component of Western NDEs and significant areas of overlap with Asian NDEs. It thus appeared that interval memories and NDEs could be considered parts of the same overall phenomenon, reports of an afterlife. This casts doubt on the explanation of NDEs as fantasies produced by dying brains, since the subjects reporting the interval memories are young and healthy.

Sometimes people enter our lives and change us forever. Author Gregg Korbon’s son, Brian, was such a person. In Beyond Reason, Gregg shares the story of his sweet and brilliant nine-year-old child. Though healthy, Brian told his parents he was going to die before he reached “double digits” (age ten). Six months later, after scoring the first run of his Little League career, he collapsed.
Though his death garnered media attention, the mysteries before and after his death were never shared. Brian foresaw his future, gave himself a going away party, and left good-bye gifts and a note telling his parents not to worry about him. After his death, Brian’s influence continued. His father—a rational physician who did not believe in metaphysical phenomena—embarked on a mystical journey through grief into a creative world he did not know existed. What he learned by healing stretched the capabilities of his reasonable mind. For anyone who wants to know how grieving can become a journey of wonder and hope, Beyond Reason can guide you.

This thought-provoking and beautifully written memoir presents powerful images, ideas, and emotions. The story’s unfolding is impossible to anticipate: it demands pages be turned, all the way to the end.

From the award-winning NPR religion correspondent comes a fascinating investigation of how science is seeking to answer the question that has puzzled humanity for generations: Can science explain God?

Is spiritual experience real or a delusion? Are there realities that we can experience but not easily measure? Does your consciousness depend entirely on your brain, or does it extend beyond? In Fingerprints of God, award-winning journalist Barbara Bradley Hagerty delves into the discoveries science is making about how faith and spirituality affect us physically and emotionally as it attempts to understand whether the ineffable place beyond this world can be rationally —even scientifically—explained.

Hagerty interviews some of the world’s top scientists to describe what their groundbreaking research reveals about our human spiritual experience. From analyses of the brain functions of Buddhist monks and Carmelite nuns, to the possibilities of healing the sick through directed prayer, to what near-death experiences illuminate about the brain and consciousness, Bradley Hagerty reaches beyond what we think we know to understand what happens to us when we believe in a higher power.

Paralleling the discoveries of science is Bradley Hagerty’s own account of her spiritual evolution. Raised a Christian Scientist, she was a scrupulous adherent until a small moment as an adult triggered a revaluation of her beliefs, which in turn led her to a new way of thinking about God and faith.

An insightful examination of what science is learning about how and why we believe, Fingerprints of God is also a moving story of one person’s search for a communion with a higher power and what she discovered on that journey.

As a physicist and surgeon, Dr. John Turner’s curiosity drove him to explore nontraditional healing modalities. Other-worldly events began the first day he was on call on the Big Island of Hawai’i. As time passed, he realized that a book was in the making, a book about his spiritual journey which included methods of healing and spiritual pathways not customarily taught in medical training programs. These techniques include the practice of Johrei (Mr. Mokichi Okada’s healing art of Japan), chanting, soul travel and astral projection (as espoused by Eckankar, Robert Bruce and others). Many readers will have an interest in or will be familiar with the concept of Remote Viewing (as developed by Hal Puthoff, Ingo Swann and Russell Targ at the Stanford Research Institute). Dr. Turner describes his training in Technical Remote Viewing by Psi Tech (Major Ed Dames and Ms. Joni Dourif) and the subsequent use of this art in medical diagnosis and treatment.

Medicine, Miracles, and Manifestations reveals how metaphysical events such as remote viewing, telepathy, consciousness and life-after-death are demonstrations of the manner in which the human brain interfaces with the universal energy.

Important topics covered in the book include:

Dealing with critical illness

Understanding brain injury

Eastern religion and complementary medicine

Precognition and remote viewing

Metaphysical manifestations including astral projection, near-death experiences and out-of-body experiences

Life after death

The unusual characteristics of Light

Theories of consciousness and the seat of the soul

To have free will and if so, how much and how free?

How to tap the inexhaustible field of universal energy in everyday life’s conditions
