In 2003, 42-year-old Rapini was working out in a Lubbock gym when she was felled by a brain aneurysm. She remembers the pain, loss of body control and the feeling of being underwater. She thought she had broken her neck.

While in intensive care being prepared for surgery, she saw a light. Rapini, a psychotherapist who counseled terminally ill patients, wondered if this was the tunnel her patients had tried to tell her about.

When the tunnel expanded, Rapini says she entered a protective, loving environment that she didn't want to leave.
